Farm and Ranch Insurance
Farm insurance coverage requires special policy forms to
reflect the differences between farming and other types of
businesses. These forms (endorsements) combine the residential
and business protection necessary to properly cover farms.
Home, personal property coverage: The
farm/ranch policy provides coverage for your home and personal
property such as clothes, furniture and appliances.
Loss of use coverage: Provides
payment for certain losses when your home is damaged and
rendered uninhabitable because of an insured loss.
Farm property: This coverage can be
tailored to fit the specific needs of your farm to cover your
personal property, livestock, buildings, structures and mobile
agricultural machinery.
Scheduled farm property coverage:
Provides protection against specified perils for the
farm personal property that you specifically name.
Unscheduled farm personal property
coverage: Provides specified perils coverage for farm
personal property that is use in farming operations. Livestock
coverage is limited to a maximum of $2,000 per head, which is
an adult one year or older. Livestock coverage paid for a half
head is $1,000 maximum, which is an animal under the age of one
year.
Farm buildings and structure coverage:
Provides specified perils coverage for farm buildings and
structures you specifically name.
Farm liability coverage: Provides
payment for your legal liability up to the limits in your
policy for damages because of bodily injury or property damage,
personal and advertising injury, and medical payments to
others. The farm liability coverage form also provides various
supplementary payments, in addition to limits, such as loss of
earnings up to $100 per day, attorney fees, bonds and interest
that accrues after a judgment has been entered.
Medical payments to others: Provides
medical expenses up to the limits in your policy for people who
are on your premises with your permission and are accidentally
injured. Coverage also extends to people injured by your
activities.
Additional coverages: Chemical drift
liability, damage to property of others, theft and claims
expenses.
Optional coverages: Business pursuits
liability, incidental business activities, custom farming,
custom feeding, limited pollution liability.
Specified perils: Fire or lightning,
windstorm or hail, theft, smoke, vandalism or malicious
mischief, collision, explosion, vehicles, aircraft, riot or
civil commotion.
